(MANHATTAN – January 2, 2022)- Happy New Year! I hope you were able to safely ring in 2022 feeling the love of your family and friends. Know that as the ball dropped, I was thinking of your friendship and support.
Last night didn’t just mark a new year, but it marked a new day for New York.
Just over 13 months ago, I launched my campaign for Mayor because I believed in a brighter, healthier, and fairer future for all of us lucky enough to call New York home. But this journey didn’t start in November on Zoom — it started with my mother’s dream. And after decades of work, that dream was realized last night (12.31.21) when I was sworn in as the 110th Mayor of New York.
While we celebrated last night, today the work begins. We are all done with this pandemic, but it’s not done with us. We must ensure our kids and teachers are safe in schools, our City remains open, and our healthcare heroes get the support they need through this wave. We must start the work of fighting the inefficiencies that led to inequalities across New York. And we must reform our system so that we never again ask New Yorkers to choose between the safety they need and the justice they deserve.
My to-do list is long, but I am filled with a deep joy to be in this position. I am so grateful to my family, friends, campaign team, volunteers, and supporters like you who have been such an instrumental part of this journey. I hope that you feel the part you played in every victory, big and small, over the next 4 years. None of it would be possible without you.
Thank you for all you’ve done and all you’ll continue to do. Let’s get to work.
Happy New Year,
